During the 8th Iberian Conference on African Studies – ICAS8 we would like to reflect on the deep political, social, economic and cultural transformations that Africa is experiencing nowadays, as well as the reconfiguration of its relations with the rest of the world. They are provoking complex local answers, which imply resistances as well as integration in regional and global dynamics.

Following the path of previous editions, this Conference will be a new opportunity to create bridges for the encounter and dialogue between different tendencies in the discipline of African Studies, and to favour the relations and links among groups and centres of research in the Iberian Peninsula and Africa.

In this way, under the palaver tree, European and African researchers will share during three days their theoretical, analytical, and methodological diversity, in order to deepen our understanding of the complex and multiple African realities, the nature of its transformations and resistances, the rich processes of interconnections, as well as the numerous narratives of the past and visions of the future which are being generated in these societies.
